A Road Safety Technical Forum is held in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport of Cameroon

13-14 June 2017

 

On 13 and 14 June 2017, representatives of the public sector, engineering companies and road safety associations met in Yaoundé, Cameroon, for a two-day Road Safety Technical Forum. This free event was organised by STA, in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport of Cameroon, and supported by two local organisations that advocate for safer roads and improved infrastructures, Pyramide and ADPP. The event gathered more than 170 road and mobility experts from Africa and Europe over two days.

STA’s Technical Sub-Committee on Road Restraint Systems meets in Brussels

STA’s Technical Sub-Committee on Road Restraint Systems (TC2), featuring some of the most renowned road safety barrier experts in Europe, met in Brussels on 22 June 2017. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss about the future of Road Restraint Systems, and  in addition establish the research activities for the second part of the year.

The Nottingham Transportation Engineering Centre (University of Nottingham) joins STA

31 May 2017

The Nottingham Transportation Engineering Centre (NTEC) of the University of Nottingham (UNOTT) evaluates the engineering, environmental and sustainable aspects of elements of road, rail, dock and airfield infrastructure. NTEC performs laboratory assessment of materials that construct pavements, and is concerned with the sustainability of transportation infrastructure, the management and maintenance of the infrastructure asset.

The Energy Union Package defines a framework strategy for a resilient Energy Union with a forward-looking climate change policy, whose main targets for 2030 are: i) at least 40% of reduction in greenhouse gas emissions; ii) at least 27% of share in renewable energy; and iii) at least 27% of improvement in energy efficiency. Reaching and exceeding these intermediary objectives will allow the EU to pursue the goal of an 80-95% decrease in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050.

The accessibility challenge impacts on a number of transport users’ segments (unemployed persons, those with disabilities, vulnerable persons, migrants, children, elderly, low income, etc.), particularly in areas with significant social, demographic and economic differences.

'Mission Critical': an Event Review on the Road Network Safety Management Workshop held in Málaga (Spain)

Road safety professionals from nine different countries gathered in Málaga, Spain, on 30 and 31 March 2017 to attend a Road Network Safety Management Workshop. The event was organised by the International Road Federation (IRF) - a global non-for profit organisation which aims at promoting the benefits of a sustainable road transport infrastructure at all levels of society - and was supported by the Smart Transportation Alliance (STA) – a collaborative platform for transportation infrastructure innovation across modes and the Smart City.


The transportation of the future relies on the development and operation of safe and secure transportation infrastructures.

Europe’s new safety rules to cut crashes

A new plan will help boost road safety in Europe, with the rules governing cars and trucks being revised. The move comes following pressure from campaigning groups pushing vehicle manufacturers to equip their products with new safety systems. This move is intended to boost overall vehicle safety and cut casualties and road deaths across the EU.
