STA Launches a Recurrent Expert Perception Tracker
The new initiative captures expert insights on key issues shaping transport systems, starting with safety and resilience.
STA has launched the STA Expert Perception Tracker, a new initiative designed to capture expert sentiment and qualitative insights on key issues affecting the transport sector. The findings of each survey will be analysed and presented in a short follow-up report, aiming to build a body of knowledge on an annual basis.
The first edition focuses on safety and resilience across EU transport systems.
The survey takes approximately one minute to complete and will remain open until 31 March 2026.
Members and experts are invited to share their perspectives and contribute to the discussion.
2026 STA General Meeting Sets Out Work Plan for STA’s Second Decade
STA Members approved updated Technical Committee themes and appointed a new Management Committee during the 11th STA Annual General Meeting.
On 10 February 2026, STA Members met online for the 11th Annual General Meeting, reviewing the organisation’s progress in 2025, ratifying key decisions and agreeing on future activities.
Members updated the themes of STA’s four Technical Committees to reflect evolving priorities in the transport sector and appointed new Chairs for each of them.

Dr José F. Papí, STA President, was featured in The Time Machine, a podcast series by Revista Carreteras, the digital magazine of the Spanish Road Association (AEC), focusing on the future of road infrastructure, transport and mobility.
In the episode, he highlights the central role of roads as the backbone of smart and sustainable mobility in Europe, and calls for reforms to the European regulatory and financial framework to better support digitalisation and AI-driven transport systems, alongside stable investment in road infrastructure.
STA to Host the KEYSTONE Project Final Event at TRA2026
Taking place on 19 May 2026 in Budapest, during the Transport Research Arena (TRA2026), the event will present the results of the EU-funded KEYSTONE and SETO projects.
On 19 May 2026, STA will host the Final Event of the EU-funded project, KEYSTONE, during the Transport Research Arena (TRA2026) in Budapest, Hungary.
As a project partner, STA is leading the Communication, Dissemination and Exploitation activities, supporting the visibility and uptake of the project’s results across the European transport and logistics ecosystem. STA Members Technical University of Madrid (UPM) and Spanish Road Association (AEC) are also partners in the project.
The event, “From Data to Action: Enabling Paperless and Smart Digital Enforcement Compliance in Transport & Logistics”, will present the main achievements of the KEYSTONE and its sister project, SETO, highlighting how digital data exchange can support smarter, paperless and more efficient enforcement in transport and logistics.

European Comission takes steps to modernise European defence and improve military mobility
A new package of measures aims to improve military mobility across Europe and support the transformation of the EU defence industry.
Building on its plans to protect peace and ramp up our continent’s defence readiness, the European Commission has unveiled a set of measures that should significantly enhance military mobility across Europe.
The measures will create an EU-wide military mobility area where troops, equipment and military assets can move around quickly and smoothly. Simultaneously, the Commission has also presented the Defence Industry Transformation Roadmap that will transform the EU’s defence industry by boosting disruptive innovation and supporting emerging defence players.
