SCALE-UP

Scale-up user-Centric and dAta driven soLutions for connEcted Urban Poles

SCALE-UP was a Horizon 2020 Innovation Action running from June 2021 to May 2025, bringing together 23 partners from five European countries. The project focused on accelerating the transition towards green, inclusive and multimodal urban mobility systems by implementing user-centric and data-driven solutions in major urban nodes.

The project addressed mobility challenges beyond city centres and promoted stronger connections between cities, their surrounding functional urban areas and the wider TEN-T network. Through innovative measures and close cooperation among stakeholders, SCALE-UP demonstrated how sustainable mobility solutions can be effectively scaled and replicated across Europe.

SCALE-UP Urban Nodes

Antwerp (Belgium)

Madrid (Spain)

Turku (Finland)

Three cities acted as living laboratories. Together, these cities implemented 28 innovative mobility measures addressing passenger transport, urban logistics, digitalisation and behavioural change.

Impact

Over four years, SCALE-UP demonstrated how integrated mobility hubs, digital tools, active mobility infrastructure and collaborative governance can contribute to:

  • Better connected urban and regional transport systems;

  • Reduced emissions and improved sustainability;

  • Enhanced accessibility and user experience;

  • More resilient and inclusive cities;

  • Replicable mobility solutions for cities across Europe.

Brochures

The first brochure focuses on presenting the overall project objectives, the expected outcomes and the partners participating in the project.

The second brochure presents the first results of a series of critical tests assessing and ranking different high performance steel grades for Road Restraint Systems (RRS).

The third brochure presents an overview of the research performed during the entire project cycle and provides the final results of the test carried out during previous months.
