ARTICLE IN INTERTRAFFIC: EXPERT OPINION - STA LAUNCHES NEW TRANSPORT SURVEY SERIES

Safe, but not yet resilient. This is how experts currently view the state of the EU’s transport systems, highlighting major challenges in climate readiness, preventive maintenance, and infrastructure resilience across Europe.

In this new Expert Opinion feature published on Intertraffic, the Smart Transportation Alliance (STA) introduces the STA Expert Perception Tracker — a recurrent, short-format survey designed to capture expert sentiment and qualitative insights on key transport topics.

The first 1/2026 survey gathered close to 180 responses from transport professionals across 27 countries, offering valuable insights into current priorities, regional disparities, infrastructure safety, climate resilience, and the growing importance of preventive maintenance.

The article also introduces the new European Transport Sector Health Index, a data-driven framework developed by STA to benchmark and monitor the overall “health” and performance of transport systems across Europe.

The article marks the beginning of a new series of regular STA contributions on Intertraffic, focusing on the future, safety, resilience, sustainability, and performance of European transport infrastructures.
