STA WISHES YOU HAPPY HOLIDAYS & A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
As 2025 is coming to an end, we are happy to reflect on and share the progress and achievements of the Smart Transportation Alliance (STA) from this year!
We continued working on the Safety + Excellence Labelling for Road Restraint Systems (RRS), developing a new assessment protocol for CE-certified Road Restraint Systems, featuring a 1–5-star rating system.
We published two Technical Reports: a) “Roadmap for the Digital Adaptation of Local Roads” by Dr Elena de la Peña, Deputy Director for Technical Affairs at the Spanish Road Association (AEC) and Vice-President, Secretary, and Chair of STA’s Technical Committee on Smart Mobility, and b) “AI Applications Across the Road Infrastructure Lifecycle” by Mr Jorge Alfonso Kurano, Project Manager at the Technical University of Madrid (UPM), acknowledging the importance of emerging technologies and Artificial Intelligence (AI) across all phases of transport infrastructure.
We published a Discussion Paper titled “Priorities & Recommendations for Research, Development & Innovation in European Transport Infrastructures”, authored by Mr César Bartolomé, Director for Innovation at the Spanish Institute of Cement and its Applications (IECA), which highlights the significant challenges currently faced by the European transport system.
We co-hosted the final event of the SCALE-UP and MOVE21 projects, “Next Steps Towards Cities as Green and Connected Nodes for Urban Mobility,” as leaders of the Communication, Dissemination, and Exploitation Work Package of the four-year SCALE-UP project.
We continued contributing as Work Package leaders for Communication, Dissemination, and Exploitation activities in KEYSTONE, an EU-funded initiative focused on simplifying cross-border logistics compliance.
We participated in several conferences, knowledge-exchange webinars, and events, and we were featured in reputable media outlets, sharing STA’s vision for the future of transport infrastructure.
We successfully held the 10th edition of the STA Annual Conference & Innovation Awards, under the theme “Safer & Greener Transport Infrastructures in the context of AI & Big Data developments”, in the framework of the European Transport Conference at the University of Antwerp in Antwerp, Belgium, on 17 September 2025.
The STA team wishes you a joyful holiday season and a fresh start to a prosperous year ahead!
In 2026, we look forward to expanding our efforts and achieving even greater impact in the transport infrastructure field!
