Safety+ Excellence Labelling: One Year of Progress
Building a Fairer and More Reliable Evaluation Process for Road Restraint Systems.
As the year concludes, STA highlights the key achievements of the Safety+ Excellence Labelling initiative.
Since its launch in early 2024, the Sub-Committee on Road Restraint Systems has updated the assessment protocolincorporating feedback from internal partners, as well as support from external experts, making significant progress towards a fairer and more transparent framework for assessing CE-certified Road Restraint Systems.
These efforts contribute to safer roads and support Europe’s path towards Vision Zero. Read the article to learn more about what we achieved in 2025.
In Memoriam: Professor José Manuel Menéndez, Esteemed STA Leader
Honouring a Visionary Academic and Dedicated STA Representative.
As we look back on this year, we also take a moment to remember Prof José Manuel Menéndez, Professor at the School of Telecommunication Engineering (ETSIT) of the Technical University of Madrid (UPM) and Director of the RTVE-UPM Chair.
Since the founding of STA in 2015, he had been one of its most active and committed representatives. His exceptional commitment to the association’s mission will continue to inspire our community.

Researchers at John Hopkins University Develop an AI Tool to Predict Risk of Vehicle Crashes
SafeTraffic Copilot, aims to provide experts with crash analyses and predictions to reduce the rising number of fatalities and injuries.
Researchers from Johns Hopkins University have developed an artificial intelligence-based tool that can identify the risk factors contributing to car crashes across the United States and accurately predict sites of future incidents.
The tool, called SafeTraffic Copilot, aims to provide experts with both crash analyses and crash predictions to help reduce the rising number of fatalities and injuries that happen on US roads every year.
The European Commission launches consultation on CO₂ markets and infrastructure
The Commission is gathering feedback to support upcoming legislation and impact assessment on CO₂ infrastructure.
The EU is committed to achieving climate neutrality by 2050 to limit global warming to 1.5 °C, with ambitious and pragmatic intermediate targets. Achieving these targets and weaning the EU off its reliance on fossil fuels requires decisive climate action across all sectors of the economy.
The European Commission has launched a public consultation on forthcoming legislation and an impact assessment for CO₂ markets and infrastructure, open until 9 January 2026.
The initiative aims to support the scale-up of CO₂ transport and storage systems essential for achieving climate neutrality by 2050.
